Assalamualaikum my brothers & sisters, In this post I'm going to discuss about this hot topic- whether we as muslims can celebrate christmas or not, So without delay let's come to the point.
wait wait wait... first of all,
1. Who are muslims?
Muslim is an arabic word which means submitter I.e. The person who has submitted his will to The God (Allah) and follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and believe in all the prophets including Jesus, son of Mary (Isa ibn Maryam).
Then, the question arises why I especially mentioned this Prophet Jesus (pbuh)?
So, Let's discuss in brief about Prophet Jesus (pbuh)
2. Who is Prophet Jesus (pbuh)?
Jesus {Isa} is the son of Mary {Maryam} (peace be upon them both) and the second last prophet and messenger of The God (Allah) and The Messiah (Al-masih). He was sent to guide the children of Israel with the revelation of Gospel (Injil). He was a miraculous boy whom Allah supported with his pure spirit I.e., angel Gabriel and born while his mother was virgin I.e. without father by the command of Allah. As mentioned in this Quranic verse-
Aal-e-Imran 3:59
إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ ءَادَمَۖ خَلَقَهُۥ مِن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
English
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.
And if we talk about the miracles of Jesus (pbuh), it is also mentioned in another Quranic verse-
Al-Ma'idah 5:110
إِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ٱذْكُرْ نِعْمَتِى عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَتِكَ إِذْ أَيَّدتُّكَ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ تُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًاۖ وَإِذْ عَلَّمْتُكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَۖ وَإِذْ تَخْلُقُ مِنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيْـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيْرِ بِإِذْنِى فَتَنفُخُ فِيهَا فَتَكُونُ طَيْرًۢا بِإِذْنِىۖ وَتُبْرِئُ ٱلْأَكْمَهَ وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ بِإِذْنِىۖ وَإِذْ تُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِىۖ وَإِذْ كَفَفْتُ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ عَنكَ إِذْ جِئْتَهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ فَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ
English -
[The Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit [i.e., the angel Gabriel] and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind [from birth] and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic."
So, this is the brief description of our Prophet Jesus (pbuh).
Now the main matter is that -
3. Why muslims can't celebrate Christmas
● The first thing is that christmas is all about celebrating the birth day of Jesus (pbuh) and there is no evidence to celebrate birthday in Islam.
● There is no teachings of our prophets including Prophet Jesus (pbuh) to celebrate their birthdays, it means it is a clear bidaah (innovation) and our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said- The worst of things are those that are newly invented, every newly invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.
● And as for christians, they believe that Jesus (pbuh) is the son of God and this is the biggest lie against Allah and it is also mentioned in the Quranic verse-
An-Nisa' 4:171
يَٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَا تَغْلُوا۟ فِى دِينِكُمْ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْحَقَّۚ إِنَّمَا ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ وَكَلِمَتُهُۥٓ أَلْقَىٰهَآ إِلَىٰ مَرْيَمَ وَرُوحٌ مِّنْهُۖ فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦۖ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ ثَلَٰثَةٌۚ ٱنتَهُوا۟ خَيْرًا لَّكُمْۚ إِنَّمَا ٱللَّهُ إِلَٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌۖ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥٓ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُۥ وَلَدٌۘ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا
English -
O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
So, we as muslims can't or shouldn't do any thing in resemblance of those who are against our True Creator (Allah).
And, finally Allah is the best of knower and May Allah guide us all to his straight path.
